Box Tops for Education: - Congratulations! Over the winter break we received our first check of the year from Box Tops for Education for $287.80! This was our biggest check yet! We need to work hard to meet our next deadline. Bring all your box tops to room C-3 no later than this Friday, February 12th. This will be our last submission of the year so let’s try to beat our previous best! Ask your friends, neighbors and family members to save box tops for you! Remember, you get 10 spirit points for your grade level for each box top you turn in. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! We will continue to collect and save box tops all year so keep them coming!

Pathways Week: - Montebello Unified School District will sponsor Pathways Week February 9th-12th. Montebello Unified high schools offer a unique opportunity for students to jump start into a career while in high school. Each of our four high schools has several paths from which students can choose to help launch them into a career! On Wednesday, February 10th, all 8th graders will travel to Cal State Los Angeles to see the Montebello Unified Schools Pathways Fair!

• Wednesday, February 10th:- College Spirit Day! Demonstrate spirit by sporting your favorite college gear.
o Choice Fair @ Cal State LA – All 8th grade students will be shuttled to Cal State LA to participate in the Pathways Choice Fair. 8th grade students are to wear their Pathways T-shirt.

• Thursday, February 11th:– Dress For Your Future! Come to school dressed in the attire of your future career.
 Friday, February 12th: - Pathways Innovation Day - College and Career Project Presentations and Contests.

Student Council Meeting: - There will be a Student Council Meeting Tuesday, February 9th, at 7:40 a.m. in C-3. All classes and clubs such as AVID Dual, Music and Green Trojans must be in attendance to vote on your fundraisers and activities. We will announce the winner(s) of the Super Bowl Prediction Contest.

Spanish Challenge Exam: - Tuesday, February 9, and Thursday, February 11, 2016, all day in the library.

8th Grade Favorites: - All 8th graders should have received a ballot to choose their 8th grade favorites for this year’s Trojan Yearbook. Ballots should have been distributed by 8th grade Language Arts teachers last week. All completed ballots need to be returned to C-3 by Tuesday, February 9th. Winners will be contacted this Thursday, February 11th, and photographed for the yearbook on Friday, February 12th.

Spirit Points: - Our New Competition Scores are: - 1st place, 6th grade 49; 2nd place, 7th Grade37; 3rd place, 8th grade, 26points.

Valentine Grams: - ASB is selling Valentine Grams in C-3. They cost $0.75 and are sold during nutrition and lunch. Grams will be distributed on Friday, February 12th, to Language Arts classes for 7th/8th and Block 1 for 6th grade.

DSG Club: - Next meeting Is on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 during both lunches in the library. We will be discussing our upcoming field trip and workshops.
Random Acts of Kindness Week: - The week of February 16th-19th will be “Random Acts of Kindness Week.” LMI will be offering a variety of activities to help promote an overall KINDER LMI. Hopefully you will try to include some of the suggestions into your everyday life.

AVID: - Congratulations to the AVID Spotlight Students for the month of February. 6th Grade: Michelle Duenas, Mariajose Santana; 7th Grade: Vanessa Tirado, Alexander Jimenez; 8th Grade: Aidee Duran.
Dual Program: - Congratulations to the Dual Scholar Students for the month of February. 6th Grade: Kiana Felix; Dayana Ramirez; 7th Grade: Lizette Roman; 8th Grade: Jasmine Palacios, Estefania Perez.

Valentine’s Dance – will be held Thursday, February 18th, in the Library from 1:40-3:30 p.m. Tickets are available in C-3 for $3.00. Remember space is limited so get your ticket early. Those who do NOT pre-purchase a ticket will have to pay $4.00 at the door! Buy early and get in quickly. Snacks and drinks will be sold.

Balloons and Flowers – ARE NOT PERMITTED AT SCHOOL. If flowers and/or balloons are delivered they will be kept in the office until school is over.

LMI T-shirts: - Room C-3 has LMI t-shirts on sale daily in the student store. Come by and take a look. We are beginning to tally Fridays’ Spirit Points for anyone wearing an LMI t-shirt, AVID, Pathways, Band or Dual Club jackets or clothing, lanyards, dog tags or sack packs! This goes for both staff and students. Prices are $10.00 for regular shirts, $16.00 for baseball sleeve shirts, and $23.00 for LMI-Hoodies.

Washington, D. C. Update: -
• Space for our 2016 trip is almost to capacity. Eighth graders can see Ms. Drulias if you are interested. Time is running out!
• Washington, D. C. Final Fundraiser: - The final fundraiser for our Washington, D. C. students has begun. Only those signed up to fundraise will be able to sell.


C-3 Student Store: - Don’t forget that located in C-3 is your LMI Student Store. School supplies are always available as long as the door is open. No snacks are sold during class time or for 30 minutes after the end of school day.

Vending Machines: - Please remember that the vending machines are NOT change machines. Get your change in C-3. If there is a malfunction with the vending machines, refunds are given in C-3 at the student store. When you report a refund we will mark the time of the refund and compare it to the vending log report as this will verify if the machine malfunctioned. So please be honest!

Equipment Check Out: - Remember that equipment is available for check-out during nutrition and lunch from C-3. In order to check out equipment during nutrition and lunch, your student ID must be left in the pocket hanger. Don’t forget to take your ID with you once you return the equipment. Students, please be reminded that if you play too closely to the C-building and choose to kick the ball, it will end up on the C-building roof. These playground balls are to be used for handball, dodgeball or 4-square and are not made to be kicked! Board games will not be out if students continue to bang sticks. We had 1 board game broken a few weeks ago!

Yearbook Pre-Sales: - The pre-sale of our 2016 Trojan Yearbook has now begun. The pre-sale price is $38.00. We accept cash or money orders only! Remember we only order 300 yearbooks so order yours early and pay less. We also have a limited number of 2015 yearbooks. Remember, you can order online and pay using a credit card. See Ms. Blanca in the student store if you would like to purchase one!


Presidents’ Day: - Monday, February 15th, School Holiday.
Random Acts of Kindness Week: - February 16th-19th. We will be sending out more information regarding this event in the near future.
Presentation by 9th Grade Counselors to 8th Grade Students: - Wednesday, February 24th, 2016.
MUSD Spelling Bee Competition: - Thursday, February 25th, at BGI.
8th Grade MHS Programming: - Thursday, March 3rd, in the Library during Language Arts classes
